CLOSING:
The Gallery closes December 20 with the FCA show, for Christmas break.
LEASE
WITH THE TOWN:
On
September 18th, 2008 the gallery signed a new 5 year lease with the
town. One of the major conditions was a $1.00 rent payment for the first year
and $100.00 a month for the remaining 4 years of the lease.
NEW
TELEPHONE CARRIER:
On
September 30th, 2008 we switched telephone carriers. Telus was
charging the gallery approximately $80.00 a month for our phone service. We
switched to Shaw on September 30 and now receive the first month free, the next
three months for $19.95 and then the price moves to $35.00 per month. Along
with the cheaper rate we also get voice mail. If you phone the gallery now
during off hours you may leave a message!
GRANT:
Some
of you may be aware that the Gallery Executive applied for a gaming grant this
past February for the year 2009. On October 8th we received word
from the gaming department that we have been given a $8,700.00 grant for the
2009 year! This grant will free money to allow the gallery to proceed with
some renovations and other programming. This grant will prevent any increases
in fees.
RENOVATIONS:
One of the items to be
discussed at the AGM will be renovations to the gallery that will be done over
the Christmas Break. A model of the gallery has been made to show the proposed
gift shop and display that we would like to see put in the gallery. Along with
the gift shop the gallery will be repainted and the carpet will be steamed
cleaned.
Other considerations to be
discussed are lighting and possibly new flooring. The lighting and flooring
will be looked at in at for a year’s time as we wish to apply for a gaming grant
specifically designed for renovations such as this.
If you wish to have any
input into some of the proposed changes then you’ll have that chance if you
attend the AGM!!
SPONSORS:
Quality Foods has become
one of the supporters of the Pearl Ellis Gallery. They are doing a number of
things to help us out, these include:
*****Reader Board
– they are continuing to run advertising on their reader board for the gallery.
*****Tents
– They have allowed us to place advertising tents on their tables in the dining
area of the store. These tents advertise 2 shows at a time.
*****Points
– They have put the gallery on their points program. Anyone making purchases at
Quality Foods may have their purchase points given to the Pearl. With
these points the gallery is able to purchase items for their receptions and
special events.
LASTLY:
- Quality Foods has donated a cake that will serve 80 people for our anniversary
show opening on October 11th, 2008.
2009 SHOW SCHEDULE:
The 2009
show schedule will be finalized and online by November 2nd, 2008. It
will also be posted in the gallery. Everyone will get a copy of the schedule on
the back of their 2009 membership card that comes out in early January.
SATELLITE SHOWCASE GALLERY:
COMOX RECREATION CENTER ON NOEL AVENUE
We have 5 showcases for the display of our member’s art.
Sheila is now taking bookings for 2009. If you wish to put your work in the
display, which run for 2 months, please email Sheila at
pearlellisgallery@shaw.ca or phone her at
250-339-5660. If you haven’t seen the showcases drop by the Rec Center to take
a look!!!
COMOX LIBRARY ART DISPLAY: AVAILABLE TO COMOX RESIDENTS ONLY!
We are now coordinating
art that is displayed at the new Comox Library. This work is displayed a period
of 2 months at a time. If you are interested in displaying your work at the
library contact Sheila by email or phone.
IMPORTANT DEADLINE!!
MEMBERS’ JANUARY SHOW
JANUARY 7TH – 26TH
Our January Members’ Show for the 2009 year is fast
approaching. The deadline for pre- registration will be November 30th.
Each member will be restricted to 1 piece of work, nothing bigger than 24” x
30”, and must pre-register by contacting
pearlellisgallery@shaw.ca
or calling the show co-ordinator, Sheila Pollock at
339-5660.
The work
must be brought into the gallery Tuesday January 6th between 11am -
1pm. Opening Reception is Saturday, January 10th.
