ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The annual general meeting will be held Sunday, November 4^th at 1:00 pm in the Lions Den (next door to the gallery).

Charles Allen – Special Executive Member.  In the last newsletter we indicated that Charles was not joining our Executive but now that he has completed his responsibilities with the Sid Williams he will be joining us after all.

The 2007 Fundraiser Art Raffle!!!  -- Please help sell the tickets!!!

This year we have elected to raise funds through the means of an art raffle. Tickets can be purchased at the gallery.  We do have books of tickets available and would appreciate the membership contacting Sheila regarding getting books to sell.

Comox Valley Fall Fair

 The Pearl Ellis Gallery will have an information booth at this year’s fair August 25^th and 26^th.  At this year’s fair we will be handing out our new brochures and selling raffle tickets.  Saskia King has volunteered to be an artist on site to help draw attention to our booth.  Vicki Lapp will be in charge of the booth but I am sure she will welcome some volunteers to help her.  If you are able to help please contact Vicki or let Sheila know.

Pearl Ellis Gallery Financial Award

We have now presented our $500.00  financial awards to the three schools.  The students receiving the awards were:

Highland Park School – Trevor Grandison – attending North Island College Fine Arts Program.

Vanier – Nikki Lochmatter – studying art at North Island College.

Mark Isfeld – Emily Backman – attending Trinity Western University where she will be pursuing a BA in communications and media art.

Ballot Results Regarding Future Financial Awards

Ballots were left in the gallery for members to express their opinion regarding the financial awards we presented to the high schools.  The results of the ballots received from the membership at large (not including the Board of Directors) were as follows: 82% of the ballots cast were in favour of continuing an award.  There will be a resolution put forward at the AGM on this matter.  We urge all members to attend.

Town Council

Sheila has applied to speak to the Committee of the Whole (Comox Town Council) at the September 12^th meeting.  She will be updating Council on the activities of the gallery in 2007 and putting forth some ideas as to what we would like to do in the future.  All members are welcome to attend the meeting as it is an open meeting. The location is in the Council Chambers by the Comox Senior Center at 1801B Beaufort Avenue.  The meeting starts at 4:00 pm.  The larger the presence of Pearl Ellis Members would definitely help make the Council realize the importance of the gallery.

Reminder that the Artist Directory on our website is free to all members. If you are trying to sell  your work and want to make more contacts you should be on the directory.

        ·        Member shows are advertised on the site, as well as GoBC, Comox Valley Tourism, The  
                 Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce, Comox by the Sea, World Webs, and the Chamber
                 Alert put out by the Chamber of Commerce.

·        Members may put web and personal bios on the artist’s directory on the site.

·        Members may advertise workshops, lessons and other gallery information on the site.

·        The site provides links to other galleries, artists and sites that reciprocate the linkage.

·        We send out invitations to receptions and announce the opening of each show through   
   email.

·        We are working on a new feature that is slowly evolving on our site involving virtual sales. 
   We will see how successful we are with this before offering it to members.

 Peoples Choice Awards Show

The winner of the 2007 summer members show Peoples Choice Award was Saskia King’s “Beaver Cove Heritage”.

The runners up were: 1^st – Sharon Lennox’s “ Approaching Storm”, 2^nd Lynn Sweetman’s “I Remember Gaston”, 3^rd – Marco Montess’s “Geisha” and 4^th Carol Garvie’s “Primordium”.

 The draws were won by: member – Peter Moore (a membership renewal and a Vicki Lapp 2008 calendar) and nonmember – Maureen Swift ( a 20% discount on art work purchased between now and December 22^nd)

this is the show that marks OUR 30 year anniversary !!!

art work must be delivered to the gallery tuesday, october 2^nd between 12:00 (noon) and 1:00pm

This fall we would like to present the biggest little are show in the valley. This will allow the public more opportunity to buy Christmas gifts early.  Think affordability when you are planning what you will submit. We are asking that work be no larger than 9 x 12.  Therefore, consider the possibilities with the following possible sizes, 3 x 4, 5 x 7, 6 x 8, 8 x 10 and so on…..   All work must be ORIGINAL.  Subject matter is your choice.  All work must be FOR SALE.  We are not limiting work to one piece per artist but    you are limited to a coverage area of 18 by 24 inches for all your pieces.  You may put in as many pieces that fit inside these dimensions. We are hoping to have our largest member participation at this show.

In anticipation of a record large turnout I request that all participating members pre-register by phone or email.  This is to prevent anyone making a trip to the gallery and having to be turned away because the show is full.
