REPORT ON THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD NOVEMBER 4^th/2007

2008 Board of Directors:

The following resolutions were passed unanimously: 

1. Resolution # 1: A change to our constitution: The Executive moves that the following new objective be included as an “object of the Society”: 

f. To provide annual educational bursaries.  

2. Resolution # 2: Presently in the Constitution by-laws the following statement is present:

# 2. All applications for membership shall be submitted to the board of Directors and, upon approval by the board, the applicant shall become a member.

We the Executive move that the statement is not necessary and wish to remove it from the by-laws.

 3. Resolution # 4: The Executive moves that the following amendment be made to by-law number 9 and that it should read: “notice is required to be given, such  notice must be given either personally or by email or in a post-paid sealed envelope addressed to the director, officer or member at his or their address as the same appears on the books of the Society.  A notice sent by post shall be held to be sent at the time when the same was deposited in a public letter-box or when sent through email as aforesaid.  For the purpose of sending any post sealed notice, the address of any member, director or officer shall be his last address as recorded on the books of the Society or shall be their last recorded email address on the books of the Society.”

The Following Resolution was passed with one vote against.  This vote was in favour of a higher increase:

1. Resolution # 3: Membership Fees

The Executive moves that registration fees for Gallery memberships be raised from the present $12.00 to $15.00 as of January 1, 2008.

The 2007 Fundraiser Art Raffle

The raffle was completed on October 22^nd.  The gallery was able to make  $1114.00. The money will help in the operations of the gallery.

The winners’ names were sent into both of the local papers and all prizes have been awarded.

            Janice Hamilton  - Framed Water Colour (Up Island) by Joanna McCluskey

 THANK YOU SO M UCH TO THE MEMBERS WHO DONATED THE PIECES TO THE GALLERY!!!  SOME OF THE PIECES WERE FROM INVENTORY DONATED LAST YEAR BUT ARE STILL VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

 MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS

Save yourself some money!  This is a reminder that all memberships are due on January 1^st/2008 for the 2008 show season. At the annual meeting the membership fees were raised to $15.00.  This new rate is to take effect January 1^st / 2008.  If you renew your membership for 2008 before then you will be able to renew at the 2007 rate of $12.00. 

NEW CHANGE FOR 2008

The Gallery will be taking a 30% commission on all sales as of 2008.  This is going to be coming into effect due to the increased costs conducting business.  This is still 10% less than the usual taken by other galleries.

SPEAK UP TO SAVE THE GALLERY

As we get closer to January 1^st, 2008 we are also getting closer to a decision being made regarding what is to happen to the gallery by Town Council.  In the past few weeks we have had 2 letters sent to the newspapers and the Mayor and Council supporting the gallery.  The letters were sent by Sandra & Walter Moses and Judi Pedder, of which a copy is on display in the gallery.  It is important that we continue to try and sway Council and let them know that more than just a few people would like the Town to keep the gallery alive in Comox.  It would be very helpful if our membership would begin a letter writing campaign NOW, and through the media, start to make the Town know your feelings regarding the Gallery continuing in its present space or moving upstairs to where the existing library is. 

We encourage you the membership, either as individuals, or as groups to write a letter to the Editors of the Echo and Record and one addressed to the Mayor and Council.  If you are unsure as to any facts regarding the Gallery please don’t hesitate to contact Sheila or any member of the Executive.  If you wish to pass your letter by Sheila she would be more than happy to go over it with you.  WRITE NOW!!  SUPPORT THE GALLERY BEFORE A DECISION IS MADE.

It is better to do something now before a decision that goes against us is made.  Let’s be proactive rather than reactive.

PEARL ELLIS GALLERY MEMBERS SHOW  (JANUARY 9^TH-28^TH)
Work is to be brought in January 8th between 12 noon to 1:00pm, it must be in by 1:00pm.
Please phone Sheila at 339-5660 or email at pearlellisgallery@shaw.ca to register your entries.
You are limited to 1 painting no larger than 24” x 30” or 2 smaller pieces.  Please know the outside measurements of your work when you register as you will be asked for the sizes.  Please call before Christmas if you can!   Point of interest - Last members show in October we sold 38 pieces of art.

2008 SHOW SCHEDULE
(3 WEEK& 2 WEEK SCHEDULE)

All group shows are 3 weeks except the Brushworks show due to the Lions bingo.  The remaining shows are 2 weeks in duration.
