AGM RESULTS

The 2008 AGM was held November 2^nd. The Directors for 2009 are:

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR THE YEAR 2008

1. LONG TERM LEASE WITH THE TOWN:

On September 18^th, 2008 the gallery signed a new 5 year lease with the town. One of the major conditions was a $1.00 rent payment for the first year and $100.00 a month for the remaining 4 years of the lease.

2. PEARL ELLIS GALLERY FUNDING FOR 2009

In February of 2008 the gallery applied and received an $8700.00 BC Gaming Grant. The grant is earmarked specifically towards 3 areas. These areas that the grant must be spent on are: the 3 high school bursaries that are sponsored by the gallery, the website and web work, and for the daily operation of the gallery (rent, utilities, office supplies and advertising).

The majority of the money raised by the gallery for it’s continual operation is by memberships, donations and commissions.

3. ATTENDANCE FOR 2008

At the end of 2008 show schedule attendance at the gallery reached just over 6100 visitors. This is an 11% increase over the previous year.

4. SATTELITE GALLERIES

In 2008 we became regular exhibitors at the Comox Recreational Center and the new Comox Library.

In 2009 we have 5 showcases for artists to exhibit their work. The exhibits run for 2 months and are changed. Each showcase displays a different artist. We have 6 shows during the year and at present we have the 2009 schedule complete. There are 3 showcases available for the July/August period. Anyone wishing to exhibit please contact Sheila at 250-339-5660.

The Comox Library schedule consists of 2 months exhibits. One artist displays their work during this time. The exhibitor must be a Comox artist (this is a condition set out by the library). Presently the schedule for 2009 is complete.

5. NEW SPONSOR – 10% off to members

Late in December of 2008 Sure Copy added its business to the gallery as a supporting member. It now offers 10% off of all business done with them by gallery members. All you have to do is show your membership card prior to them making up your bill.

6. SPECIAL SPONSOR

Quality Foods became a special sponsor during the summer of 2008. They promote the gallery with their Reader Board and allow us to put advertising tents in their dining area. They have also added the gallery to their spirit points program. You can assist the gallery by giving your points at purchase to the Pearl Ellis Gallery. The gallery can use these points for purchasing items for promotions.

June 24^th – July 13^th Members People’s Choice Show (no photography)

July 29^th – August 10^th Members Photography Only Show

September 16^th – October 5^th Members Anniversary Show

November 29^th – December 19^th Members Christmas Show ($250.00 or less)

The January Show is full, registration is past.

******* The June 24^th – July 13^th Members People’s Choice Show is open for registration on January 15^th. You must contact Sheila by email or phone. No other method please! The registration closes for this show by May 24^th or as soon as we reach capacity. Each member will be restricted to 1 piece of work, nothing bigger than 24” x 30” or small pieces taking up similar area. ******

Registrations for the other shows will be announced in the next newsletter. Newsletters will be published quarterly.
