HAPPENINGS FOR THE YEAR 2009 TO DATE:
PEARL ELLIS GALLERY IS GOING TO THE FAIR
For the 3rd
year we will have an information booth inside the curling rink at the
Comox Valley Fall Fair. Bev Johnston, 2008 winner of the People’s
Choice Show will be on site as the guest demonstration artist. Sheila
and Vicki will be manning the booth for the two days. Drop by and say
hello and enter for the draws!
PEOPLE’S CHOICE SHOW
AWARDS
The voting is over
and the winner is Saskia King for Champagne Rose 1.
The runners up are:

Our winner will
receive a gift certificate from Phil Whyte worth $100 and a plaque
donated by Bob and Sheila Pollock. They also will have the opportunity
to be part of the 2010 Fall Fair exhibit submitted by the gallery. The
runners up each receive a medallion to commemorate the event.
Attendance for this
show has been higher than in previous years.
HIGH SCHOOL BURSARY AWARDS
For the 3rd year the Pearl
Ellis has granted three $500 bursary awards to a student from each of
the valley high schools. The winners can be seen on the gallery website
(http://www.pearlellisgallery.com/pebursary_recipients.htm
).
As a member you can take great pride in being part of making
these bursaries a reality for these students. With costs rising each
year it is getting to be more of a challenge to obtain a post secondary
education. Our bursary is one of two available in the valley directed
to a student who plans on pursuing studies in a visual arts program.
ATTENDANCE
IS UP, SALES
ARE DOWN FOR 2009
As of July 1st, 2009
attendance in the gallery continues to surpass last year. Our
attendance has passed the 3000 mark. Our goal for 2009 is 7000
visitors.
SATELLITE GALLERIES
Comox Rec Centre:
for artists to exhibit their work. The
exhibits run for 2 months. Each showcase displays a different artist.
We have 6 shows during the year and at present we have the 2009 schedule
complete. Anyone wishing to exhibit in
“2010” please contact Sheila at 250-339-5660 or email
pearlellisgallery@shaw.ca .
The
Comox Library
schedule is complete for 2010.
All exhibiting artists at
the satellite galleries are listed on our website:
www.pearlellisgallery.com . Their bios are
also on display on the door of the gallery.
GALLERY WEBSITE
We would like to draw
members attention to a number of features that are offered on our
website. We have four areas that members can make submissions to at NO
COST. They are features we offer as part of your membership. They are:
FOR SALE ADS, ARTIST DIRECTORY, WORKSHOPS AND LESSONS
PAGE and GALLERY ROOMS.
If you have anything you wish to submit to be put

250-339-5660. All items submitted must be done by way of picture files
or word document files.

– October 5th Members Anniversary Show
November 29th
– December 19th Members Christmas Show ($300.00 or less)
******* The above shows
are now open for registration. You must contact Sheila by email or
phone. No other method please! The registration closes for these
shows: The Members Anniversary Show August 16th and
the Members Christmas Show October 29th or as soon as
we reach capacity. Please note for the Christmas Show that no entry can
be priced higher than $300.00 and work must be originals only (no
giglees, prints, etc.). Each member will be restricted to 1 piece of
work, nothing bigger than 24” x 30” or small pieces taking up similar
area. ******
NEWSLETTER
Our next
newsletter will come out the week of October 1st . Any
members wishing to make a submission for that newsletter is welcome to
send the submission to Bob at
pearlellisgallery@shaw.ca by
September 15th . It can include workshops, lessons or…try
and be as brief as possible.

Reminder: The

when a member shows their current membership card. These businesses

A reminder about
shopping at Quality Foods in Comox. If you buy at Quality Foods and
want to donate your points to the gallery, you can do so. Just tell
the cashier that you want your points to go to the Pearl Ellis
Gallery. Quality Foods has become a special business supporter as
they allow us to promote the gallery shows with table top advertising in
their dining room and on their reader board. This is greatly
appreciated.
A SPECIAL THANK
