AGM
ANNOUNCEMENT
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH, 1:00PM IN THE LIONS DEN
There
are two very important issues that will be dealt with at the upcoming
AGM meeting that is to be held Sunday, November 8th, at
1:00pm in the Lions Den.
1.
A new Executive for the
gallery for 2010.
The following members will no longer be running and their term ends
December 31, 2009: Sheila Pollock, Bob Pollock, Nancy King, Penny
Hacking and Hans Larsen.
We need to
fill the following positions: President, Vice-president, Advertising,
Treasurer, Volunteer Coodinator and at least one Member at Large.
The
present slate of candidates for positions are:
Membership
– Vicki Lapp
Secretary
– Kay Bukta
Member at
Large – Peter Moore
It
is very important to let us know by return mail, email (pearlellisgallery@shaw.ca)
or phone 250-339-5660
if you would like to stand for any of these positions or any positions
on the board. Nominations may also be made from the floor during the
AGM.
It is
important to note that 30 days
following an AGM meeting the
newly elected Board Members must be sent in to the provincial
government. If a Board is not in place it will be necessary to dissolve
the Pearl Ellis Gallery Society. Members need to step forward to fill
these positions!
2. There
will be a number of
resolutions dealing with
money issues presented at this meeting. Those resolutions are at end of
this newsletter. Read them over and come to the meeting.
MAJOR HAPPENINGS SINCE OUR LAST
NEWSLETTER:
PEARL ELLIS GALLERY IS GOING TO THE FAIR
We had an
information booth inside the curling rink at the Comox Valley Fall
Fair. It proved to be very successful. Sheila, who manned the booth for
both days, and Bev Johnston, our guest artist, managed to hand out over
400 brochures and make many contacts on behalf of the gallery. Fair
goers who visited our booth filled out entries for 6 gift items which
were drawn for at the end of the last day.
The winners of the
prizes were: 1. Lilian James, 2. Arlene Logan, 3. Dolores Hill, 4.
Doreen Coombs, 5. Sandy Clausen and 6. Andy ?ondration.
ATTENDANCE
IS UP, SALES
ARE DOWN FOR 2009
As of October
1st, 2009 attendance in the gallery continues to surpass last year. Our
attendance is closing in on the 5000 mark. Our goal for 2009 is 7000
visitors.
The dollar
value from sales is down 41%. The number of pieces of art sold is
similar to last year, however, purchasers are choosing lower priced
pieces.
FLU PRECAUTIONS
Wash your hands and
don’t come to the gallery if you are sick. Volunteers are asked to
phone for a sub if you are not feeling well. Stay home and get well.

PEARL ELLIS GALLERY MEMBERS SHOW –
OUR CHRISTMAS SHOW (300.00 OR LESS)!!! |
Resolutions:
This year the
gallery operated with the assistance of a gaming grant. As a result,
with the increased funding we were able to spend more money on
advertising and promotion. However, even with the increase in
advertising we, along with every segment of society, were influenced by
the sudden change in the economic climate. Due to the economic downfall
the gallery has been unable to receive a gaming grant for the 2010
year. Along with having been turned down for a grant our sales have
decreased over 40% from the previous year. We have sold almost as many
pieces of art but the value of the pieces are far less than what was
sold in 2008.
We must look at some
alternate ways of raising funds in order to maintain the activity of the
gallery. We intend to do this by holding a fund raiser in the upcoming
year. However, other methods of increasing revenues will be required to
maintain the operations of the gallery. At this time, we are making the
following resolutions which will help take care of the immediate day to
day needs. These resolutions will be voted upon at the AGM.
1.
Be it resolved:
That membership fees
which are currently $15.00 a year be increased to $20.00 for 2010.
Moved by Vicki Lapp
Seconded by Hans Larsen
2. Background
information:
Members currently do
not pay any show fee to exhibit their work. All members receive a wide
range of benefits from being a member of the gallery, however, only
those who actually exhibit their work receive the benefit of the
opportunity to sell their work through the gallery.
2.
Be it resolved that as of 2010:
That a fee of $5.00
be assessed to each member entering a piece or pieces in a member’s
show. This fee to be paid when a member brings their work in for
consignment.
Moved by Kay Bukta
Seconded by Peter Moore
3. Background
Information:
The current show fee
for having an individual or group show is $50.00 a week. Most shows are
either 2 weeks long or 3 weeks long. The cost of advertising alone is
greater than the fee. Other facilities rent at a far greater rate and
do not include advertising, manning the show or hanging the work. As
all the expenses are increasing, in order to alleviate expenses such as
lighting, rental, heat and advertising we propose the following.
3.
Be it resolved that as of 2010:
That the show fee be
raised to $75.00 a week.
Moved by Nancy King
Seconded by Bob Pollock
