Marg Selkirk
Marg
loves to share with others her connection to nature through painting. She hopes
that others will feel the same spiritual peace, tranquility, and inner joy that
she experiences when walking through the high country. (She only paints places
she’s visited, except when doing commissioned paintings.)
Marg paints detailed realistic oil paintings of dense forests, majestic
mountains, tranquil lakes and misty oceans. She paints with oils, which dry
slowly, thus allowing her to capture, in minute detail, the light and life of
the nature that she re-experiences while painting. “It’s not so much the end
result of my painting that matters to me. It’s the feeling I get while painting,
that I love.”

Pat Stauffer Studio
Name: Impressions

Impressions…………… everyone
has a different impression of what they see around them. Each of us has
something that we see which triggers an emotion or a memory
While painting what
pleases her senses Pat creates her impression of what she has
seen. If she manages to strike a cord that plays a memory back
to a viewer, she often finds that this will be the person who
buys her painting. On her travels Pat has been fortunate to use
her camera to capture impressions that she finds pleasing and
has amassed a large inventory of photographs from Canada,
Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, England, the Mediterranean and
the United States. Many sources of inspiration are close to home
while walking through some of the local parks, in a garden or in
one of our local parks. When she takes a picture she usually has
a painting forming in her mind.
“I try to keep my subject matter
varied as I find this keeps me fresh. I really enjoy painting
flowers and nature but I want to continue to challenge myself
with something different that will appeal to others. I feel
excited about expanding my creative horizons.
Pat usually does a detailed drawing
and stays pretty much to realism. Every effort is made to work
with the best paper and paints available with attention to
conservation techniques in the framing so that a client will
know they have a piece of original art that will last for many
years and will look as fresh as the day they acquired it.
Pat is a member of the Campbell
River Arts Council, Comox Valley Arts Council and Pearl Ellis
Gallery.

Althea White
I graduated from the
Elizabeth Gaskell College, Manchester and taught art, design and
textiles at various levels before leaving for Canada in 1982.

My passion has always
been colour and textures. Recently I have taken up water colour
painting and find that it both challenges and compliments the
fabric artwork. Over the past four winters we have been visiting
relatives in Western Australia. Australia has been very
instrumental in giving me new ideas to develop.
At the moment I am
developing works that have an added dimension by making them 3D.
Although most of the work originates from a series of
photographs that I have taken to get the realism and accuracy,
most subjects gain a new perspective through artistic
creativity. My first public show in September, 2010 (Themes and
Dreams) at the Pearl Ellis Gallery, is the accumulation of these
new ideas and techniques.

Steve Williamson
Photographer
and conservationist Steve Williamson spends as much time as possible
working up and down the BC coast and when possible works with
conservation charities in the Great Bear Rainforest. Working with these
organisations has enabled Steve to see many of the amazing sights and
wildlife presented in his photographs. It also allowed him to learn a
great deal about the spectacular scenery and wonderful wildlife he was
seeing, whilst at the same time being able to give something back to the
environment and the area in which he was working.
Steve’s interest in photography grew when trained by
the Royal Navy as a ‘Ship’s Photographer’ and was further broadened by a
diploma college course in the late 90’s. He moved to the Comox Valley
on Vancouver Island with his wife Pauline in 2006 and really fell in
love with BC and its special coast. Over the past decade or so Steve’s
work has been published in newspapers, on several websites, has been
used in promotional video presentations and national slideshows and has
been retained in government and scientific databases for reference and
referral archiving. Today, photographing the region’s wildlife is his
passion.
“In my short time in BC I have learnt and seen so
much, this coastline and the Great Bear Rainforest are wonderful places
to see, I feel very privileged to be able to live and work here.”
