Doug Anderson

I am a Comox resident and a landscape photographer. My themes include European and West Coast scenes, but I particularly concentrate on subjects in the Comox Valley. Capturing both the quiet and the majesty of these settings is my goal.

Living a life busy with a demanding career and the raising of my family, photography has had a special role as a creative outlet for me.

You are welcome to have a look at my website.

Leonard Barrett                                           Studio Name:  Leonard Barrett Fine Arts Studio

During the nineteenth century, with the industrial revolution and the new riches of North America a new middle class arose and began commissioning pictures of landscapes, daily living and portraits. The art of portraiture continued in its popularity, as cameras were not yet invented, and it was sometime before color prints were available... Leonard Barrett, a successful portraitist, specializes in Inuit, Native and Metis Canadians.

Born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Leonard began his drawing career in the prairies. In the 1960's he lived amongst the Inuit people of Frobisher Bay and it was there that his interest in the local people developed. Man y of the paintings of that time are now in private collections. Recently, Mr Barrett moved from the South end of Vancouver Island and has settled in the Comox Valley.

Leonard Barrett’s warm palette of siennas and ochres, brings a vitality to his portraits, capturing the spirit of the people, children, women and men including Chief Dan George. The individual faces each invoke different emotional responses. The faces never challenge the viewer; instead they draw you in closer, inviting you to stare.

If you have a special photograph of someone in the past or present and wish them to be transformed into a work of art, call Leonard at (250) 898-8239.

Brian Buckrell

Brian retired from academia in Ontario (veterinary medicine and agriculture) in 2001 and relocated, with his wife Cathy, to Comox B.C., on beautiful Vancouver Island. He now paints full time - in acrylic and oil. His interests are portraiture/figurative and landscape - particularly the challenge of painting scenes on-location (plein air). He admires the many wonderful Canadian landscape painters both past and present.  His goal is to represent, to the best of his ability, the magnificence of Canada through his own use of colour and composition

Brian has won awards for both his studio and plein air paintings - including four Best in Show and nine Awards of Excellence at Federation of Canadian Artists Juried shows, a second place at the Federation’s Gallery in Vancouver and first place at the Grand Prix d’ Art competition at the Old School House Arts Centre, Qualicum Beach in 2007 and again in 2008

Kay Bukta

I have recently moved to the Comox Valley with the express idea in mind of capturing the wonders of nature through photography and converting that energy to oil painting.  My digital camera is my current canvas.  I have just finished setting up my little studio and I am very busy between the camera and the brush.

All my life I have been involved in creating works to exercise the imagination from the very artisan in nature to original art form.  Over the years I have taken many training sessions in drawing, color management, designing, ceramics and computer art. I love it all and find it difficult to keep myself limited to one or two things at a time.
