Dianne Devereux Studio Name:
Dianne Devereux Art Studio
I
paint with watercolours because the luminosity and flow of the
medium fascinates me. For me, painting is a nonverbal way to communicate. Art is
a passion that is never satisfied because the next painting holds the promise of
success or failure. Painting is a way I explore both the physical and spiritual
world. My subject matter is varied while my present focus is mainly paintings of
children playing in the series I call "Fairies Live Here". In these paintings, I
am working to capture the exuberance and innocence of childhood. Original
paintings and prints of flowers, cattle, birds and landscapes are also
available.

Ruth Dickson
Studio Name: My
Space
Comox Wharf by Ruth Dickson
Ruth
was born in Scotland. She had her first drawing lessons with her artist
mother. She discontinued artwork in her teens to resume working on her own
after her three children were past baby hood.
Ruth moved to the Cowichan Valley in 1950 where
she lived and worked until 2002. She has an early (1958) prize ribbon
for a first time exhibit at the Duncan J. C. Hobby Show. In 1963 she
joined the Crofton Art Group, working and showing with them for many
years. Cherry Point Art Group, the CVAG Spring Shows, Mill Bay
Community League and POG printers, also showed her work.
Ruth’s first solo show was
held in the Duncan Library. She is proud of placing first on two
occasions in the Nanaimo Showcase in the 1970’s. After one of these
shows, her large oil triptych was subsequently lost in a fire in a
Nanaimo store.
One of Ruth’s watercolor
paintings was chosen for a Scottish calendar in 2002. In 2003 a
California business bought the right to use twelve of her images for
their 2003 calendar. Two large oil paintings are on permanent display
at Sooke Museum. These are backgrounds for a logging display and an
early fish-trap show.
Ruth moved to the Comox Valley in
September of 2002 where she has continued painting with the Brushworks
Group, and has also completed several commissions. She had a six month
show, ‘Retrospect’, in St. Joseph’s Hospital Cafeteria in 2006, shared a
show with Elsie Griffiths in November 2007, ‘Original Prints’, and had
her own show to celebrate her 90th birthday in November 2008,
‘China Girl’. Both shows, Original Prints and China Girl, were at the
Pearl Ellis Gallery.

Allan Gray
Studio name: Strathcona Creative Ideas

Allan Gray was born in Nova Scotia in 1944.
I graduated from Wayne State University and College for Creative Studies in
Detroit Michigan in 1969. My BFA was in advertising photography with
advertising design and illustration as minors. From there I worked for a large
photo studio in Toronto. They produced catalogue photos for most of North
America's department store catalogues,( Eatons, Simpson Sears, Sears Roebuck, JC
Penneys, Alden's
etc.)
After a heavy advertising career I took a summer position with a major airline
company that lasted 28 years. Now retired, my wife and I are setting up a
studio gallery at our home in Black Creek.
I've won several awards for my art. I use a different method of burning designs
into wood called pyrographic art, and then use acrylic paints to finish. I've
recently purchased my first digital camera and the first photo I took was
published in last winters Echo newspaper. I am a member of the Pearl Ellis
Gallery, Comox Valley Community Arts Council/Muir Gallery and the Comox Valley
Art Gallery.

Studio Name:
Elsie Griffiths Art Studio
Drawing and painting give me great pleasure.
Producing what I see, feel and create brings challenge and satisfaction.
The results of my efforts, I believe, lie somewhere between realism and
impressionism. After retiring from owning an Art Gallery, Framing Shop and
Art Supply Store, I have been fortunate to be able to resume my own
painting.
I am currently a member of
the DeCosmos Art Group in Parksville, the Arrowsmith chapter of the
Federation of Canadian Artists and I participate in their shows.
Please look at my website to find current and future shows of my work!

Teresa Hart

Teresa
began painting watercolours in college in Calgary but, except for
occasional night classes at the Alberta College of Art and in Chinese
painting, the pursuit
of a career in commercial Interior Design mixed with parenting left
little time for painting. In 2003 a weeklong workshop with BC’s
internationally acclaimed artist Carol Lynn Davidson re-ignited the
painting passion.
Teresa painted with a
dynamic watercolour group in Calgary from 2004-2006, under the direction
of instructor Mary Leigh Doyle. Upon relocating to the Comox Valley in
2006 Teresa painted with the Brushworks painting group in Comox and
continues to paint and create in her home studio. She has pieces in
private collections in Alberta, BC, and California.
