Ruby
Hettervig
 I
am from Vancouver and have lived here in the Comox Valley for two years. In
Vancouver I worked as a draftsperson for 30 years for major engineering firms
and loved the idea of drawing all day long.
I love to travel and paint
my travels; I often do not take a camera and paint what I see. I plan
on painting again in Mexico this fall/winter without a camera.
I have
had several shows in Vancouver, solo and with other artist’s.
The
Grand Canyon was painted on location, Margarita Bar was painted on my
patio in Porta Vallarta, and Bella Coola was again painted on location
while on a “paint out”. I have painted in Europe and 5 weeks in the
British Virgin Islands which I would like to publish in a “paint your
travels” book.
I have
studied art at Emily Carr and also the program at Langera.
I
will do painting on consignment and also plan on a workshop this summer
at Hornby Island. Join my outdoor painting group if you like painting
outdoors with other men and women. My plan is to paint the valley and
beyond, the gardens in Vancouver to name one of the places.

Kay Hilborn
 Landscapes,
still lifes, floral & portraits in watercolour and acrylics by Kay Hilborn
I
have always been interested in drawing and colouring but have had no formal art
training. After retiring in 1993 I decided to follow a dream and try
watercolour painting. I have taken a few short watercolour courses through North
Island College and found myself both fascinated and frustrated trying to learn
to handle the medium. Recently, I made a switch to acrylic painting and have
taken workshops with Neil Boyle and Donna Baspaly and a series of acrylic
painting classes with Marilym Timms.
I have had
one successful solo watercolour show at the Muir Gallery in Courtenay and I
continue to show my work with the local chapter of the Federation of Canadian
Artists and the Originals Only group of artists. I belong to the FCA weekly
painting group and continue to enjoy both acrylic and watercolour painting.
My paintings are
mainly inspired by scenes of the many places I have enjoyed while hiking here on
Vancouver Island, and in southwestern United States during my fall and winter
holidays. As an enthusiastic photographer I use my photos as source materials
for painting on the long wet days of winter.

Joyce Jay
I have been painting in some sort of media since a
child. Now my love is for watercolour, but sometimes I branch into acrylics.
After moving to the Comox Valley a lot of my inspiration comes from the
beautiful scenery. Some of those pictures presently hang in
The Little Oyster Studio Gallery,
York Road, Campbell River, Tel. 250-923-9786, or at my home 339-0924. However in the past I have also painted portraits of pets,
scenes from overseas and various pictures of house properties. My pictures can
be seen in some of the local exibitions or by request.

Bev
lives and paints in Courtenay, BC.

She
is a self-taught artist and has always found painting to be a very relaxing and
satisfying occupation. When she can create something others can enjoy its an
added bonus.
Living most of her life on the
west coast and fishing with her husband on his west coast troller she learned a
lot about boats and feels that painting a boat is like painting a
portrait as no
two are alike.
Other subjects she enjoys painting
are street scenes, people doing everyday things and flowers. She paints mostly
with oils but uses some acrylics.
