Peter Moore                                                                  Studio Name: Peter Moore Art Studio

Peter comes from a family of artists.  His mother paints and his brother is a successful graphic artist in England. Although largely self-taught, he learned soapstone sculpture from Pat Gailbraith (a bronze sculpter). He studied drawing and water color under Frank  Haddock. Peter's style was influenced through study of the  Impressionist Movement.

Peter's favorite medium is acrylic and soapstone, although he has  worked in pastels, ink, watercolor, colored pencil, and chalk. Peter  loves working with bright colors, which acrylics allow. His love of  nature can be found in most of his works.

Peter exhibits in many shows on Vancouver Island, and also in  Alberta. Peter welcomes visitors to his website and gallery at
#18 - 717 Aspen Road, Comox, V9M  3X4.  He can be reached  at 250.339.2546.

Sandra & Walter Moses                                         Studio Name: Ablaze Metal Art & Design

Walter and Sandra Moses are the creative force behind Ablaze Metal Art and Design.  They’ve been in the Comox Valley for two years now, having moved from the Lower Mainland to be nearer to family here.  Their new business is a dream come true for both of them.  Sandra has been involved in creative pursuits of one kind or another her whole life and Walter has worked with steel for 34 years, building things like frames for telescopes at observatories in Hawaii and Chile, rides for Disney theme parks, catwalks in mills, and bridges.  Now he turns Sandra’s ideas into art.  Their slogan is, “If you can dream it, we can make it.”

The dreaming image reflects the Moses’ Native heritage.  Walter is Six Nations, originally from Southern Ontario, and Sandra is Coast Salish from the Hwilitsum band in Ladner.  Native art is part or their extensive repertoire.  The designs in this facet of their work reflect Sandra’s coastal origins: whale, raven, and frog, among others.

Sandra and Walter also create non-Native art and can, as their slogan says, create your art as well.  This can take the form of wall-hangings or freestanding pieces.  The number of applications for decorative metal art is extensive.  For the garden, they have insets for gates or designs mounted on stakes for planting.  For the home, they make firescreens and insets for railings and door screens.  For business, they can reproduce your logo in metal, make security coverings for windows and doors, and signage.  As their slogan implies, what they can do is only limited by the imagination.

Christina Munck

Now that I live overlooking one of the most beautiful parts of the north end of Georgia Strait, among the Discovery Islands, finding something to paint is not my problem. My challenge is to capture those fleeting changes in colour and mood caused by the fluctuations in atmospheric conditions.

I work from studies and quick sketches made when something catches my eye in still moments and in fleeting glimpses. Interpreting these into paint is the real joy.

Judi Pedder

"My landscapes reflect a strong connection to earth and it’s natural beauty, and my need of, and love for, wide-open peaceful spaces. Born under the sign of Pisces, I have a particular affinity for beaches, the ocean and smaller bodies of water, which frequently appear in my work.

I also love to garden and care for house plants. I find that painting a closer, more detailed view of nature provides a stimulating change from landscapes. Painting on Masa paper produces a quite different look to some of my work and always brings questions from curious viewers.

Currently working mainly in watercolours, I like to explore ways of using basic materials to achieve different effects; for example pouring paint and allowing it to blend without my assistance."

Petra Herselman

A work of art which did not begin in emotion is not art.  – Paul Cezanne – 1839 -1906

I was born in 1943 in South Africa and immigrated to Canada to reside in the Comox Valley in 2001.
Under the guidance and inspiration of my art teacher and mentor, Saskia King, I discovered at the age of 60 that I could paint and at last ….  I had found my passion.
I work in oil on canvas and am influenced by the vibrancy, adventure and magic of color.  My subject matter varies from still life to nudes.
