NEWSLETTER----------Feb. 3rd / 2012 PEARL ELLIS GALLERY 1729 “A” COMOX AVENUE COMOX, BC V9M 3M2 HAPPY BELATED NEW YEAR EVERYONE! The gallery is off to a great start in this year of the Dragon. Our first new show of the season is just about over but you still have a chance until Sunday, Feb. 5th to come out and see the fantastic needle paintings of Myshree Tsai. She will be hosting demos Sat. Feb. 4th and Sun. Feb. 5th between 2 pm and 3:30 pm. Do you have a grade 12 student in your family that is interested in pursuing a visual arts related career? Check out our gallery’s bursary program on the website. We’ve made changes to the program and each bursary recipient will now receive $750.00. This bursary was started in 2007 and is funded by donations and the sale of fundraiser pieces of artwork. Have you renewed your membership yet for 2012? The fee is still only $20 and you get many benefits through your membership. Remember, our membership goes from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31st of each year. Please come out and renew as we need these fees to fund our operating costs. Our membership has grown to almost 300 and we have about 75 members involved in the hosting program. This army of volunteers make the gallery a success and a big THANK YOU goes out to all of you that have taken an active part in the operation. I have not been able to train everyone that has expressed an interest but will eventually get there this year. Please be patient. Are you an active artist? Are you trying to get yourself known and sell work? If you are, make sure you take the time to send in information to us to get on the ARTISTS’ DIRECTORY. This is a free benefit to members, take advantage of it and increase your exposure. CALL FOR ENTRIES: 1. Pearl Ellis Gallery Members’ Shows The March show still has space for 15 members. Remember, photographers are eligible for all members’ shows except the People’s Choice show. Each participating member can bring in either one large piece that takes up a space of aprox. 24 inches by 30 inches or smaller ones that would cover that area. All artwork must be prepared to be hung with a wire on the back. Each piece should have the artist’s name and title on the back as well. Members may register for this season’s shows by contacting Sheila by email at pearlellisgallery@shaw.ca or by phone at: 250-339-5660. All work should be new work not exhibited at the gallery before. 2. SHOWCASE SATTELITE GALLERY AT THE COMOX RECREATION CENTRE: The 2012 schedule is now full and is posted on the website. To see it click here. 3. St. Joseph’s Hospital Cafeteria Show. July, August, September Members wanting to take part in this show must contact Sofie Skapski by email at eifozeifoz@yahoo.ca to register. If you do not have email, then phone Sheila and she will act on your behalf. The hospital show change takes place on Sundays between 6pm and 7pm, so you must be able to bring in your work and pick it up on a Sunday within this time frame to take part. We are looking for about 10 to 12 members who have two to three pieces each. REMAINING SHOW SCHEDULE FOR 2012

Just send the information to Bob. He needs a little lead up time to get these on the net so please don’t be last minute with them.
