NEWSLETTER -
January 17, 2007

Happy New Year!!!  We would like to take this opportunity to express the Executive’s appreciation to those host and hostesses, our faithful ‘wall hangers’, Lena and Karl, and exhibiting and non-exhibiting members who will be returning this year.  The Gallery’s success is only as good as those who are willing to donate their time, energy and ideas.

Results from the Annual General Meeting

On November 23rd, 2006 the AGM was held in the Lions Den.  The meeting was attended by 19 of the gallery members.  At the meeting the resolution allowing the Executive to go ahead and make application for the gallery to become a registered charity was passed.  The Executive announced to the assembly that the gallery would now be taking VISA and Mastercard.  Each of the directors from last year made a presentation as to what occurred within their respective areas of responsibility and new Directors for the 2007 year were elected.  The 2007 Executive is as follows:

Results of the Fundraiser

The gallery had a very successful fundraiser in December.  Fifty-six items were donated and approximately half of them were sold.  The gallery made approximately $3000.00.  The remaining items are now being sold through our web site on the virtual gallery sales page.  Go take a look at the items (www.pearlellisgallery.com) and spread the word.

Report on Sheila’s Presentation to Town Council – Committee of the Whole – December 13th/2006

The newspaper article from the Record of the presentation summarizes it very well.  The article appeared Friday, December 15th in the Comox Valley Record, written by Colleen Dane.  The article is pasted below.

Sheila followed up her presentation by meeting with the Mayor on Monday, January 8th.  The Mayor assured Sheila that the town would continue to support the Gallery!  Sometime in the spring they plan on discussing what is to be done with the building that the gallery is in.

***** You can help the gallery by going to the town’s website (www.comox.ca/interactive/feedback/)

and submitting your opinion as to what you would like to see them do.*****

Website

In the next couple of weeks we hope to update the web site and give it a bit of a new look.  We remind members that we offer a number of free services through the site.  They are:

·        Member shows are advertised on the site, as well as GoBC, Comox Valley Tourism, The       Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce, Comox by the Sea, World Webs, and the Chamber    Alert put out by the Chamber of Commerce.

·        Members may put web and personal bios on the artists directory on the site.

·        Members may advertise workshops, lessons and other gallery information on the site.

·        The site provides links to other galleries, artists and sites that reciprocate the linkage.

·        We send out invitations to receptions and announce the opening of each show through email.

Lastly, we are starting a new feature that is slowly evolving on our site involving virtual sales.  The gallery presently is offering all the unsold pieces that were donated for the auction on the site.  In the next week or two we will be opening up individual galleries for members to sell art through the internet as we have set up a Paypal account for safe purchases.  More will be coming out to the members as the site develops.  The service will be free to members but the gallery will be taking a 25% commission just as it does when art is sold in the gallery.

Contact Bob at pearlellisgallery@shaw.ca if you have any questions.   Be sure to checkout the mapsite on our website (www.pearlellisgallery.com) and go to ‘artists directory’, ‘workshops, lessons’ and ‘other galleries and shows’.

Memberships -  All memberships are now due.  If you haven’t renewed yours for 2007 it should be done as soon as possible. You can either drop into the gallery or go to the website and get an application form and send it in with your payment.

You must be a member in good standing in order to display your work. The Pearl Ellis Gallery has three Members’ Shows every year, which gives you the opportunity to show at least one piece for the wall each time at no charge. The Executive must retain the right to limit art due to available space.

New Benefits of Memberships

As of 2007 the following 2 new benefits are available to members.

1.      10% off of art supply purchases at PJ’s Arts and Crafts  (1365 Cliffe Ave.) when you show your current members card at the time of purchase.

2.      10% off of any purchase of art displayed on the day of the  ‘reception’ or ‘meet and greet the artist’ held for each new show.

Show Schedule

The show schedule for 2007 has been filled with the exception of two slots which are in the process of being arranged.  The Pearl Ellis Member’s show started things off on January 10th with a successful reception on the 13th.  For a complete show schedule please see the schedule page on our website. A show schedule is posted at the gallery and each show that appears is advertised in the local newspapers. Your copy of the schedule is attached.  Changes may occur if a show participant is unable to attend.  These changes will be posted on the website and at the gallery.
